“None but ourselves free our minds."- Bob Marley
I know it is complicated to find the right therapist. Hopefully after reading this it will help you determine if we are a good fit.
Therapy is a partnership between the two of us. I give people the space to express themselves and provide a tool box of coping skills that can help you become your best self.
If those coping skills work, we build on that. If it doesn’t, we toss that approach to the wind - because different people need different things. It’s always alright to pivot - it’s part of the process.
I use a lot of humor in therapy and often share some of my own life experiences. Some therapists believe they should never talk about themselves. I’m the opposite - it’s only fair since you are telling me all about you.
If a therapist tells you they are trauma informed they should be able to explain what that means. In trauma care we will slowly bring it to the subconscious and then to the conscious. This method allows time to process the experience in a safe and healthy way.
Therapy is a vulnerable place and we’ll always be in it together.
